A little sketch

I haven't done any sketching in a while, but charcoal is one of my favourite mediums and I have been missing it quite a lot, so finally I got around to creating something new.

When deciding what to sketch, I came across Monika Stojak and her fabulous photographs, and you can see her Lookbooks right here: I decided to challenge myself and draw a guy as I've always had difficulties with drawing men. They always end up looking quite feminine or just odd.

Here is my reference photo: (note, this is just a reference photo, I wasn't intending on making an exact copy so my sketch cannot be judged on how closely it looks to this photo - I took a lot of artistic liberties!)

So here is a video of my sketch in progress:

Quick Note: This movie was created to the music of Sean Nicholas Savage, a Montreal singer. To see more of his music check out his myspace page:

Just for Laughs

Finally, I went to see a show at Just for Laughs! After years and years of watching shows on the Comedy Network, and after two years of living in Montreal, I finally went to the Just for Laughs Festival on Wednesday night. Dom Irrera, originally from Philidelphia, made a great performance and I'm so glad I went.

In my mind, the highlight of the show (other than spending quality time with the roomies) would be when a moth flew by Dom and he made some comment about it wanting to watch the show. Someone in the audience yells out "he better have paid $38 to get in like the rest of us." After a moment of scilence, Dom replies with "$38? I better step it up!" Well, maybe its one of those things that you had to be there for, but I thought it was hilarious... Anyways, I'm so glad I went, and just below is a link to one of his shows.

Obscure Photos of the Greatest Artists

I am an avid stumbler. When I have a spare moment, my mouse just glides over to that little button placed at the top of my page that says "stumble" and off I go on an adventure around the web. During my travels, I have come across very interesting things that range from the repulsive to the intriguing.

What I wanted to show you today were some obscure photos I have found on various different blogs/sites of some of the most well known modern artists. What I found most interesting about these photos is that I'm sure I have googled each of these artists a bunch of times, however all these photos ares one I have never seen before and are incredibly beautiful. What I love about these photos is that each one seems to tell some kind of story, or makes you want to research more about these crazy characters.

Take a look at what I have found
(I tried to reference as many of these photos as I could but some of them I just can't find where I found them! sorry!)

Photo Essay

Hello all six of you who now read my blog (I love hearing from you guys so keep up the comments!). I really seem to be doing a lot of photo essays lately, I guess its because I've got so many lovely photos I want to share. I know I have already done a photo essay on Kathi (person of the week last week), but just the other day we had an impromptu photo shoot as my roommate stuggled to open a window.
I like the shadow and light, as well as her outfit, and thought these pictures turned out pretty well - even if Kathi is that pleased with them... Anyways, take a look and enjoy!

Most Photographed Person of the Week - Lana

In honour of my favourite Bosnian's Birthday, the Most Photographed Person of this Week is my great friend Lana! She is currently finishing up a degree in Fine Arts at York University and you can check out some of her wonderful art work here:

Our hangouts have always inevitably been accompanied with photo shoots, so the following photographs are some old ones that I've recently re-edited.

Happy Birthday Lana!

My Apartment

With a sigh of relief, I can finally say that I have found my apartment, and today I signed the lease. If you recall, back in May I made a post talking about my ideal apartment and how much trouble I was having trying to find it:

Well, I don't know if I have settled (I don't live in a tower room, no balcony or small kitchen), but it is on the second floor of a Victorian building, lots of windows, tons of light, black and white tiles, room to set up my easel to paint!, odd shaped rooms, old house charm, laundry in the building, and closets!

Finally, my search has come to an end, and I couldn't be happier! The location could be a pro or a con. All I'm going to say is that it is extremely close to campus.... I'll enjoy that in the winter! So, to get a better idea you can look at a couple of photos, but I already have plenty of decorating ideas and furniture so it is going to be very different once I move in!

-Maybe I'll do a new post once I've moved in and everything has been decorated!
